OUR HISTORY
Mr. Máximo Peña Mejía, an entrepreneur at heart and founder of Grupo Max, started off in 1987 owning a small grocery store, known colloquially as a “colmado” in the Dominican Republic.
In 1988, in partnership with his brother Nepomuceno Peña Mejía, he ventured into grocery wholesale, establishing his first warehouse in the front yard of a house. Next, they rented an industrial unit in Rómulo Betancourt avenue,“Real” Urbanization, Mirador Sur.
From grocery retailers they later became suppliers for other small grocery stores, focused on innovation. They’ve been a business standard, a reference within the industry, a warehouse always perceived as an organized and modern company.
10 years later Max Distribución was born as a Direct Distributor for Nestlé, the one and only Mr. Máximo took upon himself the positioning of his services as a distribution channel in the city capital, which in time expanded to reach more areas of the country.
In 2007 DMC Distribución was born, with the goal to distribute other mass consumption brands.
In 2020 Grupo Max was established to manage operations for both Max Distribución and DMC Distribución.
The corporate offices of the group are located at 40 Luperón Avenue, Los Restauradores.
The next generation of the family has been a part of the business since they were children, Dileyda, Máximo Alberto and César, who used to spend their summers in the company. Today they are all professionals leading the most important areas of the group.
